Vertical-compression test on a DN500 reinforced-concrete pipe

Vertical-compression test on a DN500 reinforced-concrete pipe

Products subject to mandatory technical approval are required to undergo strict quality monitoring. IKT, as an officially designated test, monitoring and certification centre, validates the following, e.g. pipes, manholes, and special shapes in concrete, reinforced concrete and vitrified clay, including the associated pipe joints and sealing elements and agents.

Water tightness: checking if red dyed water penetrates through a CIPP liner

The IKT Test Centre is a supervisory body for CIPP liners and short-liners and is recognised by the German Institute for Construction Technology (DIBt). It is accredited to European Standards (DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025) for selected mechanical and technical tests on polymeric components of pipe and CIPP liner systems and samples of GRP laminate, e.g.

  • modulus of elasticity (short-term flexural modulus)
  • flexural strength (flexural stress at rupture)
  • wall thickness (mean combined thickness)
  • water tightness
  • glass transition temperatures (DSC analysis)
  • expanded-scope tests, e.g. spectral analysis, 24 hr creep, density

Expert witness assessments and consulting

Consultancy: tapping IKT’s knowledge and experience

Consultancy: tapping IKT’s knowledge and experience

The IKT drafts expert witness assessments for courts, for network operators, for contractors, for manufacturers, and for engineering consultancies. These assessments include the technical quality of drain/sewer products and services, the technical quality of drain/sewer refurbishing operations, and the effectiveness and reliability of drain/sewer operating processes. IKT’s combination of practical test and research experience and the Institute’s independence and non-profit status assure impartial assessments that incorporate the very latest state-of-the-art and research findings.

IKT Comparative Test manhole renovation

The objective of IKT Comparative Tests is to provide network operators with reliable and independent information on the strengths and weaknesses of products and methods in waste water technology. IKT Comparative Tests are undertaken in collaboration with network operators who meet to follow the progress of tests. A central aspect of IKT Comparative Tests is the practical product test, e.g. testing under construction or operating conditions.

Practical Research

IKT’s large-scale test facility makes it possible to replicate site installations and conditions on a 1:1 scale

IKT’s large-scale test facility makes it possible to replicate site installations and conditions on a 1:1 scale

IKT investigates practical issues concerning the performance of underground infrastructure. Its client group consists primarily of operators of surface water and foul sewer networks as well as water and gas supply networks. The network operators define the topics for IKT’s research and monitor, and support the research. IKT develops project concepts, performs laboratory and in-situ tests, and prepares the written research reports. The topics include a diverse range of technical, quality, procedural and organisational issues covering the construction, operation and refurbishing of networks.
